Marjan De Mey

Prof. dr. ir. Marjan De Mey is professor in Metabolic Engineering at Ghent University and director of the Centre for Synthetic Biology (CSB). She leads the Metabolic Engineering (MEMO) group, which develops standardized, automatable tools in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering to advance sustainable bioproduction. Her research focuses on reducing the cost and accelerating the development of industrial biotechnology through DNA part libraries, synthetic pathway construction, and high-throughput microbial screening. She has conducted research at TU Delft and MIT and served as Vice-President at the start-up Manus Biosynthesis. Her current team includes postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, research assistants, and artists-in-residence, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary approach.
